How is this different than what currently exists in FG (measurements on pointers)?

The original idea is for a general purpose tool to quickly determine distance without having to place/delete pointer. With the new measurement on targeting arrows, it's probably a little less important now.

Im totally with this one - I didn't think of it but every session I'm finding a I have pull out a ruler - measure the map in FG and grab a calculator. Last week I had a city map up - and the players wanted to know how long and wide the city was because they were planning to "earth glide" under the city to get into it - however, their spell would only allow them a maximum (due to level) of 400 feet. So they wanted to know where 400 feet in all around the city - where they could get to. Unlucky for me - the city map didn't have a scale...so I had to open up a place INSIDE of the city that I did have the scale - measure it across - use its scale to figure out how big it was - then go back to the city and use that location (since I now knew it was 450 feet long) to then figure out the scale of the city.

If I would have just set a SCALE - then draw a line on the map and have it tell me how long that line was - it would really have helped.
