Right now one can stretch its FG window across several monitors to do exactly this. No voodoo involved, just click and drag the corner window across.

Althought I'm not sure if this works vertically.
kelven, 12.08.2013, 09:11
That is not the same. Try to do it in a laptop with 10" connected with 24" secondary screen .
.
Falantrius, 11.05.2015, 14:01
It works vertically but the band that is stretched - only goes across the vertical at the position that the horizontal monitor is connected - usually creating a band across the vertical - usually at the middle to bottom of the vertical. Its also a different resolution so it looks really large on the vertical monitor. A very horrible experience, To resolve this - I am currently running a second instance of Fantasy Grounds on the Vertical as a client - unlocking the chat window - moving it to the bottom of the Vertical - and putting my combat tracker at the top of the vertical. As I make changes on the DM FG, its represented for the players on the vertical that I have on the wall. Not great - but workable and I can click the EYEs on the Horizontal DM FG to remove things from the VERTICAL combat tracker.

You're quite right.
larzz48, 04.03.2014, 19:32
Yes, being able to undock the different windows and move them independently would be awesome.

I'm using multiple monitors for almost everything. I feel like I lost an eye every time I startup FG. Very disappointed. Multiple monitors would really add to the game and allow for a larger table.
Falantrius, 30.04.2015, 23:06
I was asked in the forum to add my two cents worth. I have three monitors. One horizontal, one 53 in wide screen vertical and one horizontal (hi res). Stretching is not a solution. That will only work if all monitors are near same resolution and all horizontal. I would like to see support to undock the windows so I can move the Combat Tracker to the top of the Vertical Monitor AND Party List below it on the vertical. The other horizontal monitor I am using the run the game - all players in the same room - no players with clients - all rolling real dice and using paper character sheets. Having the combat tracker on the vertical monitor TOP - while I am using FG on the horizontals - so I can look at players characters and monsters. I drag monsters into the combat tracker when its time for combat. Please consider a way to support this setup.

I agree. I recently updated to a 4k monitor setup along with a 1920x1200 secondary monitor, and my old trick of dragging the window across both screens is no longer viable due to the widely disparate resolutions. If there were a way to drag windows (combat tracker, adventure, whatever) to another window that would be outstanding.

I am currently working on a DM screen that will have a USB monitor attached to the player-facing side.
With that monitory I plan to extend my PC desktop to present pictures, maps, initiative tracker apps, and the occasional animation.
If the FG application could allow for application windows to be "broken out" from the FG virtual environment to exist independently on the workstation desktop, I could leverage that capability substantially.... my mind is exploding with ideas on the presentations I could provide my players.
so.... DO WANT THIS FEATURE!!!
midas, 17.07.2015, 12:39
I bought a 4k monitor to give me more real estate since my two monitors were different resolutions (main was 1920x1200 and second one 1920x1080), so stretching required me to make it shorter on my larger monitor. :) Breaking out of the FG window would certainly have saved me some cash (though wouldn't save the devs anything) heh.

I am kind of disappointed that this has not been implemented before this. A thread like this was started up last year according to google and FG's own search engine. Dual Monitor support might not be something that FG wants but it is something they need. It is just yet another cool aspect that once implemented could garner them more business. Imagine people wanting to use this while gaming with a projector even.... projecting the map ONTO the table and then using that image as the map for the figures. Using FG for this would be cool. But at the moment it can't!!

So sign me up. I just hope this is not the place these types of threads go to die like the last one that was started for this. Based on that, that is what will happen. Lets not let it happen again.

All the things you mention can be done today, by running 2 instances of FG on same machine and placing each instance on its own monitor.

In fact, this works better, since you then have a GM instance with all GM info, and a player instance with player only info that is shared to projected surface. I have heard reports that most GMs using FG for live play use it in this way.
Jon, 19.07.2015, 21:49
So what you are mentioning Moon-Wizard is that I should buy not one but two licenses to be able to run them on two different screens?
midas, 31.08.2015, 08:54
This is a great solution for if I'm running a game, but less if I'm a player in a game.
moon_wizard, 19.07.2015, 23:55
Only one license is required to run 2 instances on the same machine. Just connect to "localhost" for the host name when you Join Game on the second instance.
kelven, 21.07.2015, 22:32
It is not to find a way to do something that could be implemented in FG in an easy way.

If I only want to have my GM instance with my map, chat, and in one monitor and in the other monitor the combat tracker, character sheet ... is more easy move the window to other monitor that open other instance of FG, join to localhost session, configure the new window ....
moon_wizard, 21.07.2015, 23:09
Understood. However, you are then asking for a single GM interface to also be able to provide player-specific versions of all records, which is another large change.

For example,
When you look at an item record, which version do you see? The GM version fully identified or the player version with information hidden.

The same holds true for maps, tokens, combat tracker and more.
kelven, 22.07.2015, 23:41
I say GM but It´s the same for a Player, f.e. I use a Laptop (13") and a 17" monitor. If I could move CT, Character Sheet to the laptop´s monitor I will see Maps, Chat better in the 17" monitor

It´s only one idea. I think this could be a good upgrade for this fantastic software.
Samarex, 15.11.2015, 18:11
This works fine as a GM.I can get the second instance to connect to my primary. But it does not work as a player. Once you join a game on your primary the second one can now longer access localhost
grifter70, 20.08.2015, 18:25
If i have 2 monitor and put it on the second screen when i put full screen it automatically goes back to my main screen....this is a pain, it should stay in the windows it is in.

Also being able to have it accross 2 screen would be nice too.

I have had the same experience. I want to run the map on my BIG monitor, and the tools on the small one, and I want them all still to relate to each other. The second instance thing is OK, but not when there is combat. Character sheets are the only other thing I would want to "move" to another monitor.
craig, 15.02.2016, 19:39
so whats the update on dual screen, just brought into this problem and thinks it going to be great but notice that nothing has been done yet and the post was done in 2013
justalon, 09.03.2016, 18:09
Being able to undock would be perfect. I have 3 (or more) monitors, i like to have my character sheets on 1, combat info on second, then any notes/maps etc on third. I am not a GM usually, just a player. Currently the system crashes regularly (already working on this with support) and it usually seems to do it when I am moving objects between the screens. Stretching it, seems to not be a very good solution at the moment. I've tested it with several high end setups and still had poor results.
justalon, 09.03.2016, 20:47
Our crashing issue was fixed (thanks Trenloe!), but I still would like to be able to undock the windows and move them to other screens so that the resolution on the other screens won't matter. Even though FG is no longer crashing, it is still an issue to adjust FG so that it fits on all 3 screens.
Matthew D Goldman, 11.03.2016, 14:09
Very hopeful that multi-monitor support will become a real thing. Right now under Windows 10, regardless of which window I have the application in when I select full screen, it moves to my primary screen. Not the behavior I want at all...
Logan Bryce, 28.08.2016, 23:05
I am considering moving my virtual players to this system. But I am also interested in using this system for my local games. What I have always wanted to do is have a digital table for maps and such. This system seems perfect for it but I would need to run a player map in one screen and all the DM stuff in another. I hope this happens soon! thanks!
iiiTRiBEiii, 21.08.2016, 04:49
This would be a great option as a DM and as a Player
tim hithcock, 16.12.2016, 20:35
I'm currently using a laptop with a second screen (sometimes three screens) and I would really, really like the option to multiscreen. Maps on one side, tools on the other. I was hoping to use FG live and project the maps on a wall while I track all the other stuff oon smaller screens.
ThievingBastard, 28.02.2017, 00:02
+1 to multi monitor support... I'm always trying to bring forward the combat tracker, game maps, the story line... it'd be great if I could rip the module sections and place them on alternate monitors... map and combat tracker particularly on a secondary monitor would be great. Keep the "module summoning toolbar" (library, pc, class... etc.) but ditch the restrictive "home page" canvas and let the dialog/tools float outside of the master context... Float baby float!
LordEntrails, 23.06.2017, 17:10
FYI, Carl recently talked about this and the possibilities with Unity. 1) Right now FG is not capable of being a windowed application. This is because of the way the rulesets and extensions are coded. My understanding is that all DLC would have to be re-coded. 2) Unity has problems with multiple windows and apparently the developers who have tried using such capabilities at the moment have stability problems and often revert back from it.

So, I'm sure it's something that SW is keeping in mind, and would like to do, but at least for the next few years is probably unlikely to be able to happen.
